Dr. Darryl S. Weiman serves as Senior Associate Program Director for the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis General Surgery Residency Program and as an Attending Cardiothoracic Surgeon. A board-certified surgeon in both General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery, he brings more than four decades of experience in academic medicine, graduate medical education, surgical leadership, and clinical practice. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Weiman has held numerous leadership roles, including Professor and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Program Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program, Chief of Surgery at the Memphis VA Medical Center, and VISN 9 Chief Surgical Consultant for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He currently serves as Chairman of the Standards and Ethics Committee of the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society, where he leads discussions and initiatives related to ethics, professionalism, and standards of care in surgical practice.

Within the residency program, Dr. Weiman is actively engaged in resident education, mentorship, curriculum development, and faculty development. He developed the Cardiothoracic Surgery Rotation Curriculum for General Surgery residents and provides ongoing instruction in professionalism, communication, teamwork, leadership, ethics, patient safety, healthcare systems, research methodology, and artificial intelligence in surgery. His educational efforts emphasize both technical excellence and the development of sound judgment, professionalism, and lifelong learning. In addition to formal teaching sessions, he mentors residents in scholarly activity, career planning, and professional development while participating in faculty development initiatives focused on assessment, accreditation, remediation, and curriculum design.

Dr. Weiman is an active member and fellow of numerous prestigious professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Association for Thoracic Surgery, American College of Chest Physicians, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, Association of Academic Surgery, and Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society. His longstanding involvement in national and regional surgical organizations reflects his commitment to advancing surgical education, clinical excellence, and professional standards across the specialty.

Dr. Weiman has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, abstracts, and scholarly works spanning cardiothoracic surgery, surgical education, medical ethics, healthcare law, and quality improvement. He is also the author of:
