Baptist Memorial Hospital–Memphis, the flagship facility of Baptist Memorial Health Care, is a 706-bed regional referral center and one of the most advanced hospitals in the Mid-South. Recognized as the #1 hospital in the Memphis metro area and #2 in Tennessee by U.S. News & World Report, Baptist Memphis provides comprehensive surgical services across multiple subspecialties, including complex general, colorectal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, head and neck oncologic, vascular, and cardiothoracic surgery. It is the region’s center for cardiac transplantation and advanced heart failure therapies, offering ECMO and LVAD support. Surgery residents train primarily at this site, rotating through Acute Care Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery, Critical Care/ICU, Surgical Pathology, Colorectal Surgery, and ENT. The hospital also houses the surgical simulation lab and serves as the hub for didactic conferences, ensuring residents gain high-volume exposure to advanced surgical techniques, multidisciplinary care, and cutting-edge technology.

Baptist Women’s Hospital, located on the main campus of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, is a 140-bed facility dedicated to comprehensive women’s health and pediatric care. It houses the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital, providing full-time pediatric surgeons and neonatal ICU support for a wide range of infant and pediatric surgical needs. The hospital also features a robust Breast Program offering radiology, medical oncology, breast surgical oncology, and reconstructive surgery. Surgery residents rotating at Baptist Women’s Hospital will gain focused experience in Pediatric Surgery and Breast Surgery, working within a multidisciplinary team that delivers advanced, patient-centered care in a state-of-the-art environment.

Baptist Memorial Hospital–DeSoto, located in Southaven, Mississippi, just outside the Memphis city limits, is a 339-bed community-based hospital recognized as one of the top hospitals in the region. This facility offers comprehensive surgical services, including general, colorectal, breast, and thoracic surgery, as well as cardiothoracic and vascular care. Residents rotating at Baptist DeSoto will gain valuable experience in “bread and butter” general surgery while also participating in specialized rotations in Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery. Training at this site provides exposure to the nuances of community surgical practice in a high-volume setting, complementing the academic experience at the flagship campus.

Baptist Memorial Hospital–Union County, located in New Albany, Mississippi, is a 153-bed community hospital providing high-quality surgical care in a rural setting. The hospital offers general surgery and advanced surgical endoscopy, with dedicated faculty performing more than 400 operative cases annually and approximately 390 endoscopic procedures. This rotation gives residents a unique opportunity to experience the vital role of surgical care in smaller communities and to understand how surgeons build successful, meaningful practices in rural environments. While at Union County, residents will focus on endoscopy and receive housing and travel support, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience in community-based surgical practice.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), located in Nashville, Tennessee, is a nationally recognized academic medical center and one of the largest in the Southeast, with 1,019 beds and a comprehensive range of specialty services. VUMC is a Level I Trauma Center and a leading transplant center, providing exceptional care for critically injured patients and those requiring complex organ transplantation. In recent years, the trauma service has managed thousands of acute trauma cases annually, while the transplant program performs hundreds of organ transplants each year, including heart, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas. Baptist surgical residents will complete dedicated rotations in Trauma Surgery and Transplant Surgery at Vanderbilt, serving as full members of the surgical house staff and participating in all aspects of patient care. Housing and travel support are provided during these rotations, offering residents an unparalleled opportunity to train in a high-volume, quaternary care environment alongside nationally renowned faculty.

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, located in Jackson, Mississippi, is a 638-bed hospital and the state’s largest private medical center, offering comprehensive surgical and trauma services. It is home to Mississippi’s only dedicated Burn Center, providing advanced care for acute burns, complex wound management, skin grafting, limb salvage, and reconstructive procedures. Under the leadership of fellowship-trained burn specialists, the center treats hundreds of burn patients annually and performs a high volume of operative cases. Baptist surgical residents will complete a focused rotation in Burn Surgery, fully integrated into the multidisciplinary burn team and participating in all aspects of care—from initial resuscitation and operative management to reconstruction and rehabilitation. Housing and travel support are provided during this rotation, ensuring residents gain invaluable experience in managing complex burn injuries within a specialized, high-acuity environment.

Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi, located in Oxford, Mississippi, is a 217-bed regional hospital providing comprehensive medical and surgical services to North Mississippi and surrounding communities. The facility offers a full range of general surgical care supported by advanced technology and a dedicated surgical team. Baptist surgical residents will complete a focused rotation in General Surgery at this site, gaining valuable experience in managing common surgical conditions and performing core procedures in a high-volume community setting. This rotation emphasizes the principles of efficient, patient-centered care and exposes residents to the unique aspects of surgical practice in a regional hospital environment. Housing and travel support are provided during this rotation to ensure a seamless educational experience.
