Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis is the flagship hospital of Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation. This hospital is a 706 bed facility with comprehensive services across many surgical specialties. Baptist Memphis is the regional referral center for complex general surgery, colorectal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, head and neck oncologic surgery, and vascular and cardiothoracic surgery. This hospital is the regional center for cardiac transplant and advanced heart failure support (ECMO and LVAD). Surgery residents will work across the Acute Care Surgery Service, Surgical Oncology, MIS service, Vascular/CT service, Endoscopy, ICU/Critical Care, and Emergency Medicine. Baptist Memphis is the primary site for surgical training as well as didactic conferences and the surgical simulation lab.
Baptist Women’s Hospital is a 140 patient bed hospital that sits on the main campus with Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis. This facility provides comprehensive women’s healthcare and pediatric care through the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital. The Women’s Hospital has full service breast care, offering radiology, medical oncology, breast surgical oncology and surgical reconstructive care. The facility also has full time pediatric surgeons and neonatal ICU support allowing for a broad spectrum of infant and pediatric surgical care. Surgery residents will have dedicated rotations on pediatric and breast surgery while rotating at Baptist Women’s Hospital.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto is a large 339 bed community-based hospital in the very northern tip of Mississippi, just outside of the Memphis city limits. This hospital offers full service general surgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgical services. While rotating at Baptist DeSoto, residents will focus on “bread and butter” general surgery as well as vascular and cardiothoracic surgery in a community hospital setting allowing residents to learn the nuances of community surgical practice.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County is a 153 bed community hospital offering general surgery and surgical endoscopy care. The dedicated surgical faculty preforms over 400 surgical cases per year with an additional 390 surgical endoscopy procedures. The Union County rotation offers residents the unique experience to see the importance of surgical care in smaller communities and to learn how surgeons develop successful and meaningful practices in a rural community setting. While rotating at Baptist Union County, residents will receive housing and travel support.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a large, 1019 bed comprehensive academic medical center located in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2019, the trauma service saw approximately 8,000 acute trauma patients, while the transplant team performed over 500 transplant procedures. Baptist surgical residents will spend dedicated time at Vanderbilt rotating on Trauma surgery and Transplant surgery. While at Vanderbilt, residents will serve as full members of the surgical house staff and participate in all appropriate aspects of patient care. Baptist residents will receive housing and travel support during these rotations.
